What is 14 February to you? A day of celebration or mourning? One of wishful thinking or just of memories? One of customised M&Ms, or avoiding cheese at all costs? One of extravagant romance or selfless friendship? Or a little bit of all of the above?
I think it’s great to have a special day to celebrate love. Not just the exciting feeling kind but more importantly the powerful, sacrificial, loyal, friendship kind. None of us can live without friends. Even — especially — couples.
I bet you can think of lots of people with different reactions to this day. Can you name one…
- Strong long term married couple?
- Newlywed couple?
- Engaged or dating couple?
- Potential couple?
- Single person waiting for their chance?
- Single older person who has never married?
- Divorced person still feeling the pain?
- Widow or widower who has lost their partner?
- Person who has vowed a life of singleness?
Here’s my challenge: take a minute this Monday to pray for God’s blessing on each of the people you just thought of. God is love, after all, and would be only too happy to answer our prayers for more of it.
