I enjoyed watching the Royal Wedding this morning. Say what you like about the Royal Family but they do provide a magnificent spectacle. The trees in Westminster Abbey made it look nicer inside than I have ever seen a church building look. Of course Kate’s dress was beautiful (and covered her shoulders!), and yes, the Prince looked pretty handsome too. They were smiling broadly, which is more than could be said for the really rather anxious and worried look on Diana’s face during most of her wedding. The Bishop said some interesting and profound things in his sermon. There were no terrorists, jumped-up Frenchmen or incompetent secret agents swinging past. It all went rather well.
And not a mention of politics anywhere.
